My Story

With 30 years experience in the painting, coatings and surface preparation industry, I learned that surface preparation is the most important process in obtaining a successful finish, regardless what type of paint you are applying.

I started my journey working in the shipyards on navy vessels as a blaster and painter. Here is where I learned the proper procedures to complete all tasks needed for a successful coating application. All navy contracts have strict specifications and are regulated to determine a successful outcome. The work was hard, dirty and had its dangers, due to all the heavy equipment and other trades working around you. This is where I learned to be acutely aware of my surroundings and perform my tasks safely and efficiently. I worked at the shipyard for 9 years ending my time there as a supervisor.

From the shipyard I went on to work for the manufacturer of the surface preparation equipment we used at the shipyard. I was the equipment specialist, which entailed anytime a customer had a problem with the equipment or a difficult substrate to prep, they called me. With this position I travelled globally and gained insight on how projects were approached in various ways. The one factor in common was the surface preparation had to be done to specifications. I was with this company for 10 years.

I spent the last part of my journey as a project manager for a contractor whom specialized in storage tanks for the refineries, pipelines and parking structures. Here I managed the surface preparation and coatings for millions of square footage on concrete and steel. This industry is continually advancing to have safer, environmentally friendly products, services and procedures.
